Cipherpod – Original

Description

The Original Cipherpod, this device has everything most users will need.  The only difference between this and other options is that all Original Cipherpods have the same HMAC key.

• Good: Replacement of your device if it’s lost or damaged is easy, so when a replacement unit arrives in the mail you can log right back into your machines, log into your websites and access your data.
• Bad: Should an Internet attacker successfully extract any device’s cryptographic key, the effective security strength would reduce from 256-bit to approximately 170-bit equivalent for everyone.  This still surpasses current NSA requirements for TOP SECRET information and maintains protection against all feasible attack methods for the foreseeable future. This worst-case scenario is still good enough for most users.  If this should occur, we will announce it on the front page of the website.
