The Cipherpod Black is uniquely keyed, so that in the unlikely event someone over the Internet manages to overcome the onboard security and deconstruct the Cipherpod Original’s HMAC key, these devices will be unaffected.
- Good: Every unit is uniquely keyed
- Bad: If this device is destroyed, lost or stolen, you will never be able to reproduce the passwords generated by it, and we do not keep records of devices sold so we cannot provide a replacement. If you encrypt a computer or hard drive with this unit and it’s lost or destroyed, the data is absolutely, assuredly and completely unrecoverable, ever. We suggest you get a Cipherpod Black (Pair) so that you’ll have a backup just in case.
